Have you guys noticed the fallen leaves, crisp air and shorter days? Fall has been in full swing here in New England! Undoubtably, one of the best parts about this season is the fall fashion. When it gets chilly, my first instinct is to start layering up, so I wanted to share with you below, my 5 essentials for layering in the fall.

You’ll want to start off with a base layer, such as a turtleneck. My orange turtleneck is currently on sale at J.Crew and I would recommend sizing up, because I’ve had these shrink in the wash before. The material is pretty thin, which makes it perfect for layering. As weird as it sounds, my fiancé always says to start thin and end chunky! Warm, rustic colors like orange, red, and brown go well with the fall season.

I bought my quilted vest from Zara last year, so it’s no longer in stock, but you can find similar quilted vests anywhere! Vests are super comfortable and perfect for Fall because it’s not too toasty or constricting. Beige and other neutral colored vests are convenient and easy to throw over any colored top!

Next, you’ll want to top it all off with a scarf! I scored big time with my Burberry tartan scarf because I found it in a consignment shop for about $15! Burberry is known for having incredibly lush scarves in timeless tartan plaid patterns. If you can’t manage to find a great deal like I did, there are tons of other options for scarves too. Another favorite of mine is this blanket scarf from Amazon. You’ll probably recognize the pattern because it’s all over Pinterest!

Fleece-lined Leggings

Regular leggings may be fine if you’re at home or indoors, but fleece-lined leggings are a must if you plan on going outside because they’re much warmer than regular leggings! Mine were bought from J.Crew last year but there are fleece leggings selling from just about every other store online during the colder seasons.

Tall Boots

Another staple of Fall are tall boots! They are strange to wear in the heat of summer, but you can certainly pull these puppies out during the fall and winter. Beneath my knee-high boots, I like to wear tall socks for added warmth.

How do you like to layer for Fall?

I was thinking the same thing I would never think to wear those colors together but it looks great! xx

I love vests and scarves for the fall! They make something like a long sleeve shirt look so much more put together.

    • November 13, 2017 / 7:57 pm

So true! They’re one of my favorite accessories that aren’t jewelry!

Love this whole ensemble, Kim! My favorite fleece-lined leggings are from Anthropologie! I don’t own tall boots (yet) because I haven’t found “the one,” but I love wearing my UGG boots during this time of the year for warmth!

    • November 13, 2017 / 7:59 pm

Omg I hope you find “the one” someday haha I really giggled when I read your comment. I can’t wait to pull out my UGG boots for Winter!

      • November 16, 2017 / 1:46 pm

I wasn’t a big fan of UGG boots until I tried them on myself. HOLY CRAP, I’VE BEEN MISSING OUT ALL THIS TIME!

  3. November 13, 2017 / 12:03 pm

Ahhhh I wish I could pull off this outfit as gracefully as you did, Kim! I definitely love layering up during this time of year. Turtlenecks are a hit or miss for me – sometimes I feel like my neck’s not long enough for it! Hahaha

    • November 13, 2017 / 8:08 pm

Aw thanks Eena! It’s probably hard to pull off turtlenecks in sunny California so I don’t blame you! And when my neck isn’t “long enough” for a turtleneck, I just fold it down to fit, haha.

I love this Kim! I literally live in layers from now until next May because of the weather here in Northern England! It’s always so cold, ha ha! I love layering shirts under jumpers, then with scarves and coats – I think that’s one of my favourite things about buying versatile outfit pieces!

    Thanks for this lovely post!
    I hope you’ve had a great Monday,

Same here, Michael! A lot of my clothes are neutral colors so I could layer them without looking like a big goof! Thanks for your lovely comment!

Your outfit is so cute! I wouldn’t even think to pair that scarf with that colored shirt, but it looks wonderful!

This is such a gorgeous look – love the colours as they’re just perfect for this time of year and love how you’ve styled and layered the whole look! Beautiful! 🙂

YASSS GIRL! Your outfit is popping!!! Love how you layered like a boss with the turtleneck, vest, and scarf! I haven’t worn turtlenecks in forever but you look great in them! HMM Maybe this is the season for me to get back into vests as well XD.

OMG Burberry makes the cutest scarves!!!! For $15, you got a SWEET DEAL!!!! I know I wouldn’t be able to score the same deal that easily XD. I love to layer up as well but for some reason, LA weather is acting up where it gets too hot for laters during the daytime D:.

I’ve been on a huge vest kick lately! Since San Antonio doesn’t get very cold, that’s oftentimes what I choose as my heavy layer! I love your fall colors in this outfit and your scarf is adorable!
