Stop and Smell the Flowers!

If you’ve ever gone through a New Englanders’ Instagram feed, you’ll find at least a dozen photos of hydrangeas! They seem to be the most photographed flower in the northeast and to be honest, I am guilty of joining the flower craze. See my Instagram feed and all my photos below for evidence.

Last July, on our annual trip to Block Island, we saw bushes and bushes of blue hydrangeas thriving off the island soil. There were hydrangeas on hydrangeas on hydrangeas! (Have I said the word ‘hydrangeas’ enough?) But really, I’ve never seen so many in my life and wouldn’t be surprised if these flowers outnumbered the island locals.

Luckily, hydrangeas are my all time favorite, so I took a million snaps to share with you today. Here are just some of the hydrangeas I came across on Block Island. Hope you enjoy!

So sorry to hear that they died! We have some in front of my parent’s house that have been coming back every year with no issues. Hope you decide to replant them someday!

  7. September 5, 2017 / 8:45 pm

Wow those flowers are so stunning! We had beautiful purple hydrangeas in our backyard when we moved here but my husband basically chemical burned them (IDK what the hell he was doing lol) & they never came back up. Breaks my heart!

Thanks, Kara! Dan and I point out hydrangea bushes and trees to each other whenever we come across one because they’re our absolute favorites!

  13. September 6, 2017 / 4:24 pm

Your photos are sooooo beautiful! Hydrangeas really are such picturesque flowers – We don’t have a huge amount of them in Australia, but I think I need to go to the US to take photos of them like this too 🙈

    • September 27, 2017 / 2:50 pm

I have no idea where to find hydrangeas elsewhere in the world, since I am no expert. But I can tell you for a fact that there’s SO many on Block Island and that you should most definitely travel here just to see them. It’s only a 24 hour plane ride, right? 😉

    • September 27, 2017 / 2:52 pm

Hydrangeas are my favorite for that very reason! Thanks for stopping by, Violette!

  14. September 6, 2017 / 5:03 pm

There really are no flowers in Las Vegas, lol surprisingly I saw some lilacs the other day though.

    • September 27, 2017 / 2:59 pm

Thank you so much, Hunida. Sadly, I would not expect to see flowers in Las Vegas either, but at least you found some lilacs!

  16. September 6, 2017 / 11:02 pm

gorgeous! since our weather is so hot down here, we can only grow the cone hydrangeas which only come in that greenish tint. pretty, but nothing like your gorgeous blue blooms.

    • September 27, 2017 / 3:00 pm

Thanks, Lauren! I think the greenish hydrangeas are pretty too!

  17. September 7, 2017 / 12:28 am

    • September 27, 2017 / 4:18 pm

I have never seen this many of them either! Truly a sight.

  24. September 7, 2017 / 6:27 pm

I love hydrangeas too, they are so majestic indeed! In England you have a lot of Westerias filling the facades of purple flower curtains ever spring. Flowers make everything more beautiful, am I right?

    • September 27, 2017 / 4:24 pm

I have written about the Mohegan Bluffs, Southeast Lighthouse, North Lighthouse and kayaking at the Great Salt Pond! Hope you enjoy those posts!

This is so, so lovely! Hydrangeas are such beautiful flowers and they can make any place look 10x times prettier and more colorful, your pictures actually make me jealous because my city has zero flowers and it looks super plain!

    • September 27, 2017 / 4:31 pm

So glad you enjoyed! I’m sorry to hear that you don’t have many flowers in the city, but I bet there’s way more action, nightlife, and art museums to enjoy in the city.

Oh my goodness, you guys out in New England get to experience a wild bloom of BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS!!! I love how they look because you just have a super aesthetic view~! It’s so cool that it comes in several colors too. The whole mix between blue, purple, white, and pink looks perfect. Unfortunately, we don’t really get many flowers out in my area in LA unless people care enough to grow them @__@.

    • September 27, 2017 / 4:04 pm

So glad you enjoyed my pictures! Hydrangeas have such a wide range of colors that go well together, which is why I love them so much. At least you have some succulents and cactuses in LA, right?
