Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford, Connecticut Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford, Connecticut

During the summer months, we love to explore new places, which is why Dan and I decided to visit a small coastal park on a warm Sunday evening for our first time. Even though, we have been living on the coast of Connecticut for over a year, we still seek to make new outdoor discoveries around our town. If only we were still catching Pokemon like last summer! Anyone still hung up on Pokemon Go?

We got to the park right before sunset, so my photos turned out a way darker than usual. Rather than trashing these photos, I decided to experiment by editing them differently.

To be honest, I love the way these edits turned out. Obviously, they aren’t true to color, but it does represent how warm and joyful we felt exploring this new park during the heat of the summer. (Did I mention that I love hot weather? Pretty sure, I’m the only one who likes heat bordering uncomfortable.) Hopefully these colors aren’t too nauseating for you! I don’t really intend on editing my photos this way again unless I get some positive feedback.

Please note that we took a few photos with our DSLR, but mostly vlogged our experience with my smaller camera. You can find the video (coming soon) on our Youtube channel. In the vlog, you’ll see that we snapped a few polaroids with the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 and collected a ton of seashells, our usual bit!

  16. September 22, 2017 / 4:36 pm

I think you edited the photos beautifully! I no longer play Pokémon Go but when I did, I always ended up at the most beautiful places! 😛 And I’m like you, I love the heat even when it is bordering uncomfortable!

    • October 5, 2017 / 10:35 am

Thanks for your comment, Hunida! I love the concept of Pokémon Go—getting kids on their phones to go outside. Definitely worked on me and Dan! So glad to find someone else who loves the heat too hehe.

  17. September 22, 2017 / 9:52 pm

Oh I was thinking the colour in these photos was due to a beautiful sunset, haha! I think you did a great job with editing them. It looks like such a nice spot to visit and I love your little printed dress! 🙂

Hope you are having a great start to your weekend 🙂

    • October 5, 2017 / 10:44 am

Thank you for your comment, Mica! I always try to edit my photos in a realistic way, so the fact that you thought this was achieved by the actual sunset itself means I did a good job! Hope you have a great week!

  18. September 23, 2017 / 1:59 am

These photos are amazing! I think it’s great you got there and took these right at dusk. It really gives them that special lighting. The sky looks neat too. I bet you will get even more amazing photos now that Fall is rolling around.

    • October 5, 2017 / 10:45 am

Cannot stress enough how perfect the sunset is for photography! And you are so right, I’m really looking forward to fall photos 🙂

    • October 5, 2017 / 10:49 am

Thank you! I love the shape of Instax cameras. Definitely a retro feel to them.

  19. September 23, 2017 / 10:54 am

The snaps look beautiful! So warm! I do love finding lovely places near to home x

    • October 5, 2017 / 10:50 am

Thank you so much! It was pretty warm by the water. We love that this place is so close to home.

  20. September 23, 2017 / 1:47 pm

These photos are so beautiful Kim! You did such an amazing job editing them. I’m excited to see your new video since I binge watched all the other ones x

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:00 am

Kara! I am so pleased that you watched my Youtube videos! We are still trying to get ourselves comfortable in front of the camera, so kudos for sticking around!

  21. September 23, 2017 / 1:48 pm

I love the lighting in these photos! They look so dreamy! Also I too love hot weather that borders on heatstroke, haha. I’m freezing if it’s under 72 degrees & I dream the Fall & Winter weather (& I live in Florida!). Perfect temp to me is like 89 degrees with the sun beating down on me. Actually feeling that Vitamin D, despite what my pale skin might tell you, haha.

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:14 am

Thanks so much, Kara! My fiancé thinks I’m crazy for liking the heat. So glad there are people out there who agree with me, haha. Maybe I should move to Florida, although I hope you head north for Fall/Winter someday because it’s really beautiful here. Just remember to bring a thick jacket!

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:00 am

Hope you have fun apple picking! Fall is my second favorite season, after summer!

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:14 am

      Thanks Dominique!

  22. September 23, 2017 / 2:51 pm

I love how these colours turned out! It’s always fun to step away from what you’re used to and experiment with something different 🙂 // I never got into Pokemon Go, but my brothers still play when they get bored whilst traveling! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:16 am

Thanks Audrey! I loved experimenting with this post. Pokémon Go is a great game for on-the-go but it will drain your battery life and data, just saying 😉

  23. September 23, 2017 / 6:43 pm

What a perfect post for saying goodbye to summer! The pink sunset so is pretty. I’m ready to say hello to Fall fashion but sad that the days are getting shorter and shorter. That’s what I will miss most about Summer. The sunlight!

    Rina Samantha

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:17 am

Thanks Rina! You couldn’t have said it better. Fall fashion is one of the best! I am happy to wear chunky sweaters again, but I’m sad that the sun will set even earlier every night.

  24. September 24, 2017 / 2:35 am

I LOVE how this post gave me the emphasis of the seasons shifting to fall. Haha, I used to be addicted to Pokemon Go but had to delete the app because I got so distracted by it. Your pictures look great! DSLR pictures are awesome. Hope you both had fun out in Chaffinch Island Park :).

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:20 am

Thanks Nancy! I loved Pokémon Go too but it used up all my data which was why I stopped. Also the thrill of the chase slowly depleted after time.

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:20 am

  25. September 24, 2017 / 12:49 pm

I remember Pokemon Go being so popular last year! It’s funny how these things come and go isn’t it – I haven’t heard anyone mention it for ages now. I love how you’ve edited the photos too x

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:25 am

I haven’t heard anyone talk about Pokémon Go either! It makes me sad because it was such a big part of our summer two years ago, hahaha. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, Jenny!

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:32 am

      Same here! Thanks for reading!

  26. September 24, 2017 / 8:18 pm

Your photos are beautiful! Here in Australia we are heading into Spring/Summer and after looking at your photos, I’m incredibly excited for it… I’m very sick of the rainy weather here in Australia X

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:38 am

Thanks Kate! It’s crazy to think that our schedules are entirely opposite. Hope you enjoy the summer!

  27. September 24, 2017 / 8:22 pm

I love the warm tones in these pictures! I think it captures a summer sunset perfectly :). Currently it’s rainy and freezing in BoCo – we’re not ready to say goodbye to summer yet! Maybe it’s time to plan a beach trip??

Ben is always romping around in the mountains and woods, but his most exciting recent discovery was a black fox! So beautiful.

    Susie |

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:38 am

Thanks Susie! I have never seen a black fox before. I doubt we have them where I live. Sounds wonderful!

I wanna say congrats on your engagement and please, I do enjoy the editing on these photos. I was initially going to comment on how cute your bag was until I realized it was your instax! Anyway, love the post processing in these photos too!

    • October 5, 2017 / 11:41 am

Thanks Teesh! It’s a small bag that molds to the Instax shape. You can’t really fit anything else in it besides the camera :/

    • October 5, 2017 / 1:06 pm

Yes, we’re lucky to live somewhere where we can access such beautiful, calm places!
