A Tour of Yale University’s Campus

Last weekend, I decided to show Dan around Yale University’s campus. We happened to visit during their Spring Fling Weekend event, which is an exciting time when everyone celebrates the end of the academic year with outdoor games, food and music. We walked through a ton of college guys in funky Hawaiian clothes, girls in bright crop tops, and food trucks everywhere! This year they hired JoJo, the singer. Anyone remember her? Or is it too little, too late?

I have been working at Yale University for almost an entire year now. But still, I am astonished by the beauty of this school every day. The buildings are so grandiose and inspiring. It’s no wonder the brightest minds congregate here to learn. Even something as simple as getting into your dorm room requires having to walk through the most elaborate victorian gates.

Every corner of Yale reminds me of Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Apparently, there is a Quidditch team on campus. Sign me up! And the fact that they sort their freshmen students into specific residential colleges like Davenport, Pierson, etc., makes them even more comparable to Harry Potter’s houses like Gryffindor, Slytherin, etc.

My photos are only from a small section of the campus, yet you can see the many architectural details engraved in the walls. There are so many interesting stories that went into the creation of this school, which you can hear about from an official tour guide. (Not me, haha). Not to mention the Yalie secrets. Anyone heard of Skull & Bones?

As part of my job, I have to attend commencement in late May to take photographs, which I am pretty excited about. It has only been a year since I graduated myself, but it still feels nostalgic in a way, seeing people in caps and gowns!

Has anyone toured Yale University before?

      Right? Both are equally amazing!

That’s so cool you work for Yale! They were on my list of dream schools to attend but ya know… life had other plans ha! Do you just take photos for the school?

Also, I’m definitely feeling the Harry Potter vibes in the photos. I also love how they sort their students into colleges; my brother goes to a private high school which primarily focuses on sciences & math and they do the exact same thing – freshmen get to choose their path goal (either focus on electrical engineering, material science and three other ones I can’t remember) and represent it throughout high school! Pretty interesting huh?

Haha your comment made me laugh. Same with me, I never considered Yale because I definitely would not have gotten in! 😉

Whoa I can’t imagine choosing the correct path as a freshmen in high school! Hopefully the students can change their mind after time? Either way, I love the sense of community and involvement that comes with being assigned/sorted into a college!

      • May 12, 2017 / 1:20 pm

Yes they can change but my younger brother’s set on doing his high school career in MSET which is along the lines of material science because he wants to be a chemist in the long run. The youngest one, who’ll be attending the high school next year, will be going that same path cause he wants a career in aerospace engineering… I’m just here like “well at least I’m a nurse??” Hahahaha kids these days.

        • May 12, 2017 / 2:18 pm

Wow they’re going to do amazing things in the future! I wish I was interested in science-y things! That’d be way more impressive than art 😛

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:46 pm

I agree. I love walking through the University, it’s so gorgeous!

    • May 12, 2017 / 1:02 pm

      That’s awesome!!

  2. May 5, 2017 / 6:27 pm

It looks so cool! There’s so many inside events and secrets at the universities in the States. Yale looks really beautiful!

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:42 pm

Those secret societies at Yale really intrigue me. I wonder why they are so secretive!

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:45 pm

Definitely the best part of New Haven, CT!

  3. May 6, 2017 / 5:34 am

    Yale ♥ what a magical campus! 🙂

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:41 pm

      I love it!

  4. May 6, 2017 / 8:31 am

Awesome pics of Yale!! East coast schools are so beautiful. It’s part of the reason I chose a PA school (Go Lehigh!) over a CA school, which is where I’m from. You can’t beat gorgeous campuses like these with all the old architecture and history.

    xx Hannah

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:32 pm

Wow, that’s a far move for you! I would love to check out the CA schools. I’ve only heard good things about them!

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:37 pm

Reviewing my Yale pictures always get me in the mood to watch all the Harry Potter movies again!

  5. May 6, 2017 / 5:52 pm

Yale looks good! I think it’s the first time I get to see their interior. My university is honestly just one small building.I kinda want a tour on universities abroad just to see how pretty they are. Haha.

    xx, Richel V.

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:31 pm

My university was small too. If you visit Yale someday, then you should definitely check out Harvard in Boston.

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:28 pm

The buildings are quite big! Even the gates to the dorms are so tall!

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:24 pm

      Thanks Michaela!

  6. May 7, 2017 / 2:40 pm

Yale is so beautiful! I am amazed at the fine detail of the buildings on campus. It’s definitely noticeable what the design is influenced by. The buildings remind me of Hogwarts as well XD. It’s awesome that you work at Yale. I’ve never toured Yale before but it shows that universities are a great place to tour around for the nice aesthetic views!

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:20 pm

Yale may have come into existence before Hogwarts, but to me, they are the same haha!

  7. May 7, 2017 / 5:53 pm

Yale is a beautiful campus! Love all of the architecture! So cool that you work there!

Thank you! I can’t wait to see more of the campus this summer!

  8. May 8, 2017 / 12:52 am

Yeah, this is totally so Harry Potter. I’ve visited some Universities when I was in US before but none of them looked like this.

    • May 12, 2017 / 12:13 pm

So true! My school was far from extravagant like Yale 😛

Yale is incredible indeed! Reminds me London’s architecture… looks like a mix of London Tower and Westminster Abbey inside))
It must be so cool to work at Yale!

There’s really no reason to visit Connecticut besides Yale, so that’s understandable 😉

    • May 12, 2017 / 11:43 am

      It’s quite extraordinary and magical!

  12. May 9, 2017 / 4:20 am

  13. May 9, 2017 / 11:07 am

Wow it really is beautiful— so Hogwarts-esque! That’s neat that you get to work there and take photos (and your photos are so beautiful!). I just finished my first year of college and your description of the spring weekend events is bringing back memories. Food trucks and crop tops for sure. Also, ten points for that Jojo pun 😉

Thanks! Beautiful architecture like this definitely encourages me to be super productive!

    • May 12, 2017 / 10:56 am

My photos only scratched the surface of how the university looks, so you could definitely see more if you toured it in-person!

    • May 12, 2017 / 10:45 am

Now that I work at a school, I’ve suddenly been really interested in touring them!

    • May 12, 2017 / 10:45 am

      So sweet! Thanks Daphne!

  17. May 15, 2017 / 12:30 am

I visited their campus a long long time ago when my older sister did her college tour. It is definitely a beautiful place. Love all that gothic architecture.

That jojo reference was definitely appreciated by me.

The campus looks bloody beautiful and it’s funny you mentioned Harry Potter as well. I’ve been around where they filmed Harry Potter at the Oxford campuses in England and those Yale buildings look exactly like it!
