2016 | The Year in Review

We admit that this year was troubling for America and even the entire world. But on a personal level, 2016 was an incredible year for us. Our year was quite eventful and stocked with new achievements left and right. Already, we started and fulfilled a ton of our dreams (but don’t worry—new dreams are made up every day!) This year has been so monumental that I thought I’d reminisce on all of the highlights. From taking our relationship to a whole new level, welcoming our newest family member, launching this blog that you’re reading now and everything in between, we have a lot to be thankful for.

Here are our top favorite moments of 2016 that we hope to remember forever.

  1. Getting engaged.
Our engagement wasn’t much of a surprise for our friends and family. We’ve been dating for how long now? However, we are still ecstatic about starting this new chapter in our lives!Snowy Engagement Photoshoot
  2. Road tripping around Iceland.
We spent 1 1/2 weeks in June exploring Iceland in the tiniest rental car. We’ve made fun memories, like petting Icelandic horses, chasing waterfalls on the South coast, and plenty more. I discovered this new side of me that loves going on adventures abroad with Dan, so expect to hear more about our travels as time goes on!Happy with Icelandic Horses
  3. Welcoming our adorable niece, Emma, into the world.
In May, Emma arrived happy, healthy and with a head full of hair. Seriously though, she has a mohawk! Congratulations to my sister, brother-in-law, and Madison, who is a big sister now. Also to my parents, who have never been happier to be grandparents.Dan holding Emma
  4. Celebrating our anniversary at Block Island.
Block Island is seriously my favorite place in the entire world! We are eternally grateful for Aunt Susie for always hosting our weekend stay.Mohegan Bluffs, Block Island
  5. Relishing in good-quality time outdoors.
Every aspect of our weekend trip in Pittsburg, New Hampshire reminded me of those idyllic Thomas Kinkade summer puzzles. Log cabin on a lake. Sunset reflecting off the water. Ducks wading around in unison. We all need to be recharged from time to time.Sunset at Tall Timber Lodge, NH
  6. Living in Mystic, Connecticut.
Between 2015-16, we lived in the small, coastal town of Mystic, Connecticut. We laid on the town beach every afternoon, enjoyed homemade popsicles on the porch during hot summer days, took in downtown Mystic’s charm every weekend, and most importantly, leveled up several times in Pokémon Go. If that’s not a good time, I don’t know what is.Seaport Marine in Mystic
  7. (Dan) taking part in motorsport.
Generously, Dan’s co-worker invited him to race in the Lemons race event in Thompson, Conn., under the team name, Kielbasa Kids. (His co-worker is Polish and seriously the nicest guy we’ve ever met!) I cheered on from the sidelines and took plenty of photos to document.

  8. Graduating from University.
There’s a saying that college is the best four years of your life. Or maybe it’s high school? Either way, I’m blessed to have a bachelor’s degree under my belt. I partied, studied, made new friends, had amazing experiences. But now, I’m happy to be done 😉Kim's Graduation from Uconn 2016
  9. Scoring my dream job as an Associate Art Director at Yale.
Art has always been something that I’ve wanted to pursue. However being a first-generation immigrant and telling your parents that you want to pursue art (while they were hoping for doctor, lawyer, etc) is a big no-no! However, the heart wants what it wants. I scored my dream job, regardless of my degree in Business, with help from an art teacher who believed in me. (P.S. — My parents ended up supporting my choice!)
  10. Starting this blog!
Ever since I was ten years old, I have been fascinated with blogs and content creating on the internet. Remember Xanga or Myspace? What a throwback! With Dan’s support, he helped me finally start my blog this year! What took me so long?

Now is the time to reflect—we’d love to hear about your favorite moments of 2016 below!

Here’s to the exciting opportunities that will unfold for us all in 2017! Cheers!
